“What did you do today?” Rebecca asked from a hotel room in the lower forty-eight. Away at a conference for work, she missed AJ and called for an update from home.
“Oh, not a lot.” He continued, “Mick came out and we worked on a couple of projects.” Mick, the official welder and good friend of the Kennel, is an expert with both tool and torch.
Curiosity winning out, “Like what?”
“Nothing big. Just a couple of projects. I’ll send you some pictures.”
‘Nothing big’ is AJ and Mick speak for moving a building. You know---small stuff. Separately, it is always a surprise what they will do when left to their own devices, but together---if not mountains they can certainly move buildings.
As a surprise for Rebecca, something she wanted, AJ and Mick moved the handler cabin from its original spot next to the house to its new location. With the dog yard as the welcome mat, Jeremy, our handler will have better neighbors and more privacy.

Moving the handler cabin was just one on a long list of projects tackled this summer. AJ armed with tools and Rebecca paint and the obligatory paintbrush, the exterior of the handler cabin was finished, and thanks to a trade with Mick and Jodi the interior acquired some new-to-us furnishings.
If ever a small cabin could be built from the clearance rack and hand-me-down materials, we did it when we built the handler cabin last year. And in the same spirit, the useable materials from our old dog barn were used to construct a new dog barn complete with sleeping quarters for old or injured dogs. Howard, Rebecca’s old stray and her heart made quick work of making it his own.
When Rebecca was not looking, AJ repaired and painted the dog houses and expanded the kennel.
