Tomboy: Snowhook's Cover Girl

“Guess what?” AJ started our phone conversation, “I was at the store and saw Tomboy on the cover of a calendar.”

“I wondered when the calendar was going to come out. Is it clear that it’s our girl?

He growled a low laugh from his throat, “Oh, yeah. I knew it was our girl the second I saw the calendar. There she was just staring back at me.”

Once it was settled that we needed at least one copy the phone conversation was ended, and Rebecca took to telling her co-worker that we have a cover model on the team---some would call it beaming with pride and they would be right.

Shortly after the team returned home from Nome, we received an email from Todd Communications, publisher of the Mushing Alaska calendar. It seems a photograph of our girl caught their eye for the 2012 calendar. As the team rested in Takotna on their twenty-four hour layover in the 2011 race, Jeff Schultz, official Iditarod photographer snapped the cover shot of our very lively, very happy lead dog.

Tomboy, daughter of Rebecca’s main leader Fargo, has accompanied AJ on many races including the 2011 Iditarod. The smile on her face is made even more perfect by her one blue eye and one brown eye. In the kennel, she is known for giving some of the best hugs.
