Husky Homecoming

With the exception of eight dogs comprised of retirees, free spirits, dogs that don’t consider themselves dogs and two mid-summer additions----Gomez and Rio---the Kennel sat quiet this summer. Dozens of dog dishes remained empty.

The quiet in the Kennel, the absence we tried to ignore as the days passed became a main source of conversation as the time neared to collect the dogs and bring them back home. The quiet was ignored no longer as it would soon be filled with the howls and barks of the Snowhook Family.

For the third time this summer---the first to take the dogs to southeast Alaska to run tours and a second time to visit the dogs---AJ prepared to make the journey. Hitching dog trailer to dog truck, AJ left Rebecca knowing that when he returned the Kennel would once again be complete.

With eager anticipation her constant companion, Rebecca waited.

Listening on the most reliable signal of return offered--- the barks of the ten in the Kennel--- Rebecca knew mutts and musher had returned home along with Jeremy our handler back for another season.

A quiet, empty Kennel no more, it was a homecoming of tailwags, hugs, and belly rubs.
